PLAYER NUTRITION

Nutrition plays a key role in the athletic performance. Failure to provide the calories and carbohydrates that young athletes need to fuel their bodies, the fluid to maintain hydration, and the vitamins and minerals to support metabolism and tissue growth and repair will result in poor performance and an increase risk for injury and/or illness. The following nutritional guidelines will ensure that every young athlete is fueled and hydrated for optimal health and performance.

Fueling the Young Athlete:Tips on, before, during and after exercise calories, and carbohydrate requirements.

Keeping Kids Hydrated:Hydration guidelines and replenishing tools.

Pre and Post-Exercise Snacks for Young Athletes.

FITNESS FOR SOCCER

There are different definitions of what fitness actually means, but one common way it is described is as speed, strength, stamina, suppleness and skill. One key element is to be specific, in what you want to be fit for. For example a golfer would not need much speed but would need a lot of skill.   Team sports like soccer make it even harder to determine what areas of fitness are required. The types required will depend upon positions and role in the team. There are two specific types of stamina that we are interested in and these are aerobic and anaerobic.
